החוף המזרחי של האי הצפוני הוא אזור הררי עצום, מכוסה ביערות ונהרות אדירים. כמה מהחופים היפים ביותר בניו זילנד ממוקמים ממש כאן והנסיעה באזור זה היא חוויה מסוג קצת שונה. במשך שלושה ימים ו- 475 ק''מ הייתי התייר היחיד באופק.

היקס ביי (Hicks Bay), ידוע בקרב הקיווים כאחד מהמקומות הטובים ביותר לגלישת גלים בניו זילנד וגם לדיג.

הר אאוראנגי (Aorangi) שולט בנוף בחלקו האחרון של הכביש, בנסיעה בין טיקיטיקי (Tikitiki) לגיזבורן.

למי שמנסה לסוע בכביש הזה שלושה ימים רצוף לבד. כשהגעתי לגיזבורן, רצוץ מעייפות, לא שמתי לב לשלט עצור ופרצתי לצומת. נתקעתי ברכב שהגיע משמאל ודפקתי את שתי המכוניות. להלן גרהם, יונדאי אקסל שנת 88` מובא למקום קבורתו.
